Best Youth Baseball Gloves: Sizes by Age and Position

Quick answer

Quick answer

For ages 6 to 10, we chose Wilson's A500 youth gloves: the 11 in infield glove, the 11 in and 11.5 in utility gloves, and the 32 in catcher's mitt. Wilson states the age range on each page. Check the size against your child's age and position, and try it on before buying if you can.

The best youth baseball glove is the one a young player can close easily, with a size that suits their age and position. We chose these four because Wilson's own product pages state the size and the age range. We have not tested any glove, and all four picks are from one line, because that was the only maker we could confirm in full.

If you only need a size, start with our baseball glove size chart. It shows Easton's and Wilson's published sizes by age and position.

How we chose

For each glove we opened the maker's product page in a browser on November 3, 2026 and recorded the size, the age range the maker states and the material. A glove whose maker page gave no age range was left out.

"We chose" means exactly that. Where we say "the maker says", it is Wilson's own promise, not our finding. Pages show no prices or star ratings here because we do not have live Amazon data.

Sizes and ranges here are makers' and leagues' published guidance, not a measurement of your child. Kids grow at different rates: check fit in person and follow your league's equipment rules.

The maker calls the 11 in infield glove "the lightest all-leather youth glove in the game". That is Wilson's claim and we have not verified it.

For a full chart with first base and ages 11 and up, use our glove size chart. Neither chart lists a size for a catcher's mitt, so we do not give one: check the size on the exact model's page and ask the coach.

The two makers disagree a little, so treat any figure as a range. An 11.5 in glove is at the top of both makers' infield ranges for age 10, and a 12.5 in glove is above both makers' charts for age 9.

How to check the fit

  1. Have the child put it on

The hand should reach the end of the finger stalls without the fingers bending at the tips.

  2. Squeeze it shut

Wilson says its A500 is made so young players can squeeze it shut right away. Check your child can do it with one hand.

  3. Check the wrist

Look for a strap or wrist system that holds the glove on. Wilson's A500 pages describe an elastic or self-adjusting Quick Fit Wrist.

  4. Catch a few soft tosses

A short game of catch shows whether the pocket opens and closes easily. Break it in gently; see how to break in a glove.

Frequently asked questions

Is a 11.5 glove too big for a 10 year old?

Not by the published charts. 11.5 in is the top of Wilson's 8 to 10 infield range (10.75 to 11.5 in) and of Easton's youth infield range (10.25 to 11.5 in). If your child struggles to close it, drop to 11 in.

What is the best baseball glove for a 9-year-old?

We do not rank gloves. For a 9-year-old, Wilson's chart lists 10.75 to 11.5 in for infield, outfield and pitcher, and its A500 pages state ages 6 to 10 for the 11 in infield glove. Pick the size your child can close easily.

What is the best baseball glove for a 10-year-old?

The same ranges apply at 10: Wilson lists 10.75 to 11.5 in for ages 8 to 10, and Easton's youth infield range is 10.25 to 11.5 in. Wilson's A500 11 in infield glove is stated for ages 6 to 10, and the 11.5 in utility for 6 and older.

Is a 12.5 glove too big for a 9 year old?

It is above both published charts for that age: Wilson's top is 11.5 in for ages 8 to 10, and Easton's youth outfield range tops out at 12.25 in. A glove that big is likely hard for a small hand to close.

What are the top-rated kids' gloves?

We do not use star ratings or reviews, so we cannot list top-rated gloves. We chose four Wilson A500 gloves because the maker's page states the size and age range for each.
