Easton's height and weight grid is published for bats in general and is not split by baseball and softball, so use it as a starting point for fastpitch.

How to find the right bat, in 3 steps
Measure height and weight
Use current numbers, since kids change fast. Enter height in inches (4 ft 3 in is 51).
Read the finder and the chart
Find your weight row and height column in the chart. Add an age to compare with the makers' age tables, and note any gap.
Check the rules, then try a bat
Check your league's bat mark and length limit. Then swing a few bats of nearby lengths, as DeMarini suggests.

Frequently asked questions
What length softball bat does a 10-year-old need?
Both Easton and DeMarini list 28 to 29 inches for age 10. Easton's height and weight grid may land a little higher or lower, so the finder shows the span between them. Swing a few lengths before buying.
What drop is right for fastpitch?
DeMarini lists -11 for ages 8 to 13, -12 for ages 8 to 12, -10 for age 12 and up, and -10 or -9 for age 14 and up. Its rule of thumb is that a higher level of play usually means a lower drop number, which feels heavier. Younger players often do better with lighter bats.
What does drop mean?
Drop is the bat's length in inches minus its weight in ounces. DeMarini's example: a 31-inch, 21-ounce bat is a -10.
How wide can the barrel be?
DeMarini says fastpitch barrels are essentially always 2 1/4 inches. Little League softball also caps the barrel at 2 1/4 inches and the bat at 33 inches (34 for Junior and Senior).
Is Easton's grid made for softball?
Easton publishes one height and weight grid for bats and does not split it by baseball and softball. We use it as a starting point and cross-check it with DeMarini's fastpitch age table.
Does this cover slowpitch?
No. The youth charts we checked are for fastpitch. For slowpitch, follow your league and the size options on the model's own page.
Do I need a certified bat?
Leagues set their own rules. Little League softball, for example, requires a BPF mark of 1.20 printed on non-wood bats. Check your league's bat rules before you buy.
How do I know the bat fits?
DeMarini recommends swinging bats of different lengths to see which suits your swing. DeMarini also notes that younger players often gravitate toward lighter-swinging bats that are easier to control.
